How do I win in a one on one situation in bfbc2?

Here's an example. I had the high ground, saw him first, aimed and unloaded a clip. All I hit was air, then he turned around and killed me with just a few shots. This happens all the time. Should I shoot from the hip without trying to aim? Someone please school me.How do I win in a one on one situation in bfbc2?
Everything depends on your weapon, upgrades, shooting style, and 'net connection.

Shooting style - It's important to learn to burst-fire whatever weapon you're using. If you try to hold your trigger down, your accuracy goes to crap. Don't forget to make yourself a harder target as well; don't just stand there and let someone pop you, unless they've got the drop and you're SOL. Forget jumping - move side to side, shooting from the hip as you move.

It's also important to check yourself and make sure your aim while moving isn't pointing down. That's one problem I've always had, and I'm constantly catching myself pointing down and having to correct it. Learn to also keep your aim while moving at around head level. If you need to shoot fast, it takes more time to hip shoot or ADS if you're already pointing in the dirt.

If you're not good at hip shooting, you can play against bots in a private game in Onslaught. I often use it after playing another game to help me relearn how to use a controller in BF again, and to get my moves back down. It's great for tuning your skills, since you're only playing against bots, and the AI is pretty good. Start on the hardest setting you can handle, then work up. I usually play it on hardcore when I'm retuning myself.

Try to use bullet damage with Assault, extra explosives and the explosives upgrade in Engineer, bullet damage with Medic and Recon. The accuracy upgrade isn't as effective as damage if you're already using a weapon that has good accuracy.

For your weapon, the AN-94 is the strongest Assault rifle, though I prefer the M16 over it. With increased bullet damage you can take people down pretty quickly. Don't forget that any attachments you have slow you down - I typically run with a 4x scope on my M16, but that's because I use it at long range as well as short. For short range encounters, you need to learn to shoot from the hip, as trying to do an ADS (Aim Down Sight) slows your reaction time, especially when there's a scope involved.

For Engineer, you can't beat a G3 / Carl G combination. The G3 takes a bit of practice, but once you learn to use it you can't lose, long or short range. The last update allowed for scopes on it as well, though I've always used with with iron sights. The Carl G you can snipe with at long range or blast at short range. It's accurate as hell, and it reloads fast. I use it a lot in many Conquest maps with the explosive damage upgrade rather than just using a rifle for most kills, even short range ones. In regular it's great; for hardcore, you can't lose. If you'd had a Carl G in that encounter, you'd have wasted him. Remember in close encounters, even if you need to kill yourself in the process to take someone out, you're only losing 10 points.

For Medic, I prefer the MG3 with open sights. It takes some practice, but if you fire it in short bursts, it's deadly as hell. I platinumed my SpecAct MG3 a long time ago, and I'm close to doing it with the regular one.

For Recon, if you're shooting long range, either the M24 or the GOL are the 2 best to use. The GOL with bullet damage is the best combo hands down; it's the most accurate, and the BD maxxes out the the damage.

For short range Recon, you can use the VSS with a 4x like a silenced assault weapon. You need to keep track of your ammo, but short range it only takes about 3 rounds. You can also use the M95 with a 4x at short range - 1 shot, 1 kill.

Pistols - I prefer a 1911, but the 443 and Rex are pretty good too.

The game has gone through many changes - I've been playing it since the Beta in 2009. I don't even bother playing Regular mode anymore, as they've made it a real pain to kill anyone. These days I only pay Hardcore, unless one of my clan mates is playing regular and needs an extra gun. There's a lot of satisfaction in shooting someone and actually have them die without emptying a full mag into them.

Overall connection speed is a must, but there are those who are chronic lag-switch users. If you see someone blink on and off as you're shooting them, it's a mechanical delay. Keep in mind too that if you're halfway around the world and playing with someone on the far side of the planet, you're going to have latency issues. How do I win in a one on one situation in bfbc2?
Well...

If you use a full-auto weapon (like Steyr-AUG) fire in bursts, this will improve your overall aim.

If you run out of clip and the enemy is still alive, switch to backup-weapon (be it pistol, 40mm grenade-launcher, anything that might kill him before he kills you).

Firing from the hip is pretty much useless unless it is a close-quarters situation and/or you happen to have a shotgun or LMG (spray%26amp;pray principle) but normally you are always better of aiming.

Oh and learning how to lead with the gun is also very helpful.
