1. Make sure you have an EA Account
2. http://veteran.battlefield.com/
Go here and add any game that you have played. In total, I have added 2, being Battlefield 2 and Battlefield Heroes. Once you have two games, it should show Battlefield Rank of 1.
3. At EA.com, go to your profile and go to add persona, if your gamertag is not listed. If it is, select your gamertag so it is highlighted.
4. Go to http://battlefieldbadcompany2.com (Before doing this step, make sure you are at the in-game menu of BC2)
The first time here it should ask you what persona you would like to use. Select your live gamertag. It will take you to the 'My Soldier' tab. It should look like the stat page in-game on Bad Company 2. Underneath the 'My Profile' section under 'My Soldier' you will see Veteran status. If you click on the link, it will bring up a page and show that you now also have Bad Company 2 linked as well. If you wait for a minute, the Veteran rank will go up to 1(or more, depends on how many games are added)
5. Once it shows the Veteran Rank of 1+, turn off the ps3 and restart the whole thing. This time when you start the game, you should get a message saying you have unlocked it. It will connect first to update your stats, and then give you the message.
I can confirm that having only Battlefield Heroes and Bad Company 2 works in getting the weapon - You do NOT have to be rank 2. On the website in step 4, you can see the list of games that count toward being a Vetaran.How do I get the M1Garand in BFBC2?
When you signed up for BFBC2 you gave them your email. They sent you an link to the site where you can apply for one in an email. :P Goodluck.
